Anthropoetics is and has always been a free, open-access journal. All content on this site — journal articles, Chronicles of Love and Resentment installments, and other materials — is freely available to read, download, cite, link to, and use for scholarly, educational, and personal purposes. No registration, subscription, or payment is required.
Copyright
Copyright in individual articles and Chronicles installments belongs to their respective authors. Copyright in the journal as a compilation — including selection, arrangement, and editorial apparatus — belongs to Anthropoetics. The journal’s ISSN is 1083-7264; the ISSN for Chronicles of Love and Resentment is 3066-6848.
Authors who have published in Anthropoetics have granted the journal a non-exclusive license to publish and archive their work. Authors retain the right to self-archive, reproduce, and reuse their own work, provided that Anthropoetics is acknowledged as the original publication venue.
Permitted uses
The following uses are explicitly permitted without further permission:
- Reading, downloading, and printing articles for personal or scholarly use
- Citing articles in academic publications, theses, and other scholarly work
- Linking to individual article or Chronicles pages
- Reproducing short excerpts (up to approximately 300 words) for purposes of commentary, criticism, or review, with full attribution
- Use in coursework and teaching, provided the original source is acknowledged
Bulk reproduction and commercial use
Reproduction of substantial portions of the archive — whether individual long articles, multiple articles, or collections of Chronicles installments — for commercial purposes requires written permission from the copyright holder. To request permission, contact editors@anthropoetics.org.
AI training data and automated extraction
Bulk extraction of content from this site for use as artificial intelligence training data is not permitted without explicit written permission from Anthropoetics. This applies regardless of the technical means used — including but not limited to web crawlers, scrapers, automated download tools, and browser extensions — and regardless of whether the extracted content is used for commercial or non-commercial purposes.
Anthropoetics respects the open web and supports legitimate archival and research crawling. However, the wholesale ingestion of the journal’s archive into AI training datasets is a form of bulk reproduction that goes beyond the open-access license under which this content is offered. Researchers or organizations wishing to use Anthropoetics content for computational analysis or model training should contact us to discuss terms.

Archival crawling
Crawling by the Internet Archive (Wayback Machine) and by library preservation programs is welcomed and encouraged, consistent with Anthropoetics’ commitment to long-term preservation of the scholarly record.
